![]() With all humility, the "Natchez Burning" trilogy is certainly my magnum opus. "If you want to start with Penn Cage, you can begin with "Natchez Burning" and simply read the trilogy. I love Travis McGee, but the one-offs, like "Dead Low Tide" or "The Executioners"-the novel that became "Cape Fear"-are also outstanding. Still, some of my best novels are the stand-alones, which is the way I feel about John D. But Penn and Tom Cage kept whispering stories in my ear, and after straying a bit between each one, I kept going back to them.
